Belmuir Water
The beat is on the North (left) bank of the river, starting about 100 yards below the road bridge across the river in Methlick, and extends downstream for about 1.75 miles, to around 150 yards above Kelly Sawmill. see Map here
Car Parking.
A public car park exists adjacent to the playing fields and church in Methlick, near the top of the beat.
No car parking is permitted on the north side of the river, or on the access roadway to Lovie’s Quarry, at Forester’s Bridge.
On the B9005, between Methlick and Ythanbank, a lay bye exists adjacent to Forester’s Bridge that can be used; this is about 2/3rds the way down the beat.
Pedestrian Access.
There are only two pedestrian access points to the beat.
1) Near the top of the beat, by a footbridge behind Methlick Church.
2) 2/3rds down the beat, across the Forester’s Bridge, from the lay bye,
on the B 9005.
Existing Riverbank Conditions.
Much of the riverbank, mainly from below the Minister’s Pot down to the Rocks is quite badly holed by cattle sinking into the soft ground – considerable care is required to ensure ankle injuries do not occur, particularly in the case the elderly. Above the Minister’s Pot, and below the Rocks to the bottom of the beat, ground conditions are quite good.
Footbridges and Stiles.
From the Minister’s Pot down to just below the Gurge Pot most of the simple plank bridges (all crossing very shallow but boggy ditches) have fallen into disrepair or are missing. These will be dealt with, but this may take some time. (We are currently busy with grass cutting.)
The two stiles at the Forester’s Bridge are unsafe, as is the bridge across the burn at the Cessnie Pool – these will be the first items to be repaired / replaced, as soon as possible.
Rules.
Rules are the same as for the ADAA Methlick Beat.
Catch Return Reports.
The current ADAA catch return reporting system shall apply. It is essential that this is adhered to: – Without this information we cannot take a view as to whether we may wish to lease this beat in the future!
