Don Vision boosted by ADAA Grant for Goval Dam Improvement
Aberdeen and District Angling Association have agreed to provide £5,000 this financial year to continue the implementation of the River Don Trust Fishery Management Plan specifically regarding the Goval Dam.
Since its re-launch in December 2008 the Trust has made rapid progress in completing the Don Fishery Management Plan (FMP) , successfully procured Scottish Executive and other funding for a range of practical initiatives such as alien species surveys, obstacle removal surveys, education initiatives, e.g.” salmon in the classroom”.
The alien species survey is now complete and will be moving soon to the next phase ie eradication. Obstacle removal surveys are to be carried out soon on a national basis, to identify the optimum method for removal while programmes are being developed and equipment purchased to build upon and expand the existing successful “salmon / trout in the classroom” initiative.
Next week the Trusts newly appointed biologist Jamie Urqhuart begins work at the Trust office, based at Cluny. Jamie will be initiating a series of projects based on the FMP and will be keeping “Friends of the Don” up to speed by means of a regular Blog.
ADAA President Robert Dey said “ The ADAA Committee recognise that by supporting the River Don Trust we will be investing, among other things, in the improvement of Don fish stocks and habitat which can only be positive in terms of future catches for our members. This specific grant will be directly spent on improvements to the Goval Burn”
